Template Name: 2016.STD.x64.EVAL.US-English.gz
Vendor: Digital Ocean

Vendor Service Package: 512MB Droplet

Physical or Virtual: Digital Ocean
Hard drive: 20GB+10GB SSD
RAM: 512MB

Error Information: Wrong password! Cannot login into admin account anymore.

The first time I installed the server, I changed the password.  I was able to login into Windows (both with Remote Desktop and console) for about two days.  Then the password changed itself and I was not able to login anymore (yes, it was the correct password I tried --- I checked with the "eye").

I deleted the first server and reinstalled a new one.

I changed the password again.  I was able to login into Windows (both with Remote Desktop and console) for about two days, again.  Then the password changed itself and I was not able to login anymore AGAIN!!!   (I tried restarting the server, nothing works)

My issue is something like that:  https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/85ba26f6-2df9-4110-af50-35d2b0b7d68b/administrator-password-changed-by-itself-please-help?forum=winserversecurity

What is wrong?!

Is there anyway I can use these reset tools on the server ?   https://www.top-password.com/blog/reset-forgotten-windows-server-2016-password/

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely you will be able to use that tutorial or otherwise as the console provided by DigitalOcean is very limited (ie. no virtual keyboard, no ability to mount an ISO, etc.). Are you certain the password you are using is secure and complex? It is much more likely that you are using not sufficiently complex enough password allowing your Windows Droplet to be hacked by a 3rd party.

Are you able to log into your Droplet (and Windows) using the DigitalOcean console?

It is a possiblity

No

Now, I would like to try to reset my password using Linux. Could you please tell me the steps to access the C:\Windows directory using the Recovery ISO?

Thanks

Unfortunately I cannot provide a step by step guide as I haven't tried to mount a Windows installation using their recovery ISO to date.

Assuming their recovery ISO has the correct drivers/software available..

mount -t ntfs-3g /mnt /dev/vda2
